1.The BRANDENBURGER GATE,BERLIN
Built for King Frederick William II in 1791, the massive sandstone Brandenburg Gate in Berlin’s Mitte neighborhood was the city’s first Neoclassical structure. It was modeled after Athens’ Acropolis. Standing an astounding 26 meters tall, the structure is topped by the magnificent Quadriga, a four-horse chariot pulling the goddess of victory.
2.BADEN-WÜRTTEMBERG’S BLACK FOREST
Known for its dark, densely forested hills, the magnificent Black Forest is one of the most visited highland areas in all of Europe. Stretching 160 kilometers in the southwest corner of Germany from Pforzheim in the north to Waldshut on the High Rhine in the south, it is a hiker’s dream come true.
3.DIVINATION IN COLOGNE
This Gothic-style Roman Catholic cathedral is located in the center of historic Cologne, Germany. In 800 AD, Emperor Charlemagne moved the remains of three monarchs there. One of the most visited tourist attractions in Germany is this cathedral, which is also referred to as the Cathedral of St. Peter and St. Maria. Visitors can also visit other mediaeval cathedrals, galleries, and museums in this city.
4.THE BERLIN MUSEUM ISLAND
Berlin’s famous Museumsinsel, also known as Museum Island, is located between the 400-meter-long Kupfergraben canal and the Spree River. This wonderful attraction includes many of the city’s most important and historic museums.
Located in the heart of this pedestrian-friendly neighborhood is the Old Museum. It was constructed in 1830 specifically to house the royal treasures. Soon afterward, the land behind the museum was set aside for the purposes of art and “knowledge of antiquity”.
5.BAVARIA MUNICH RESIDENCE
The Munich Residenz was designed by Domenico dell’Allio and built between 1468 and 1574. It was once home to the Wittelsbach royal family of Bavaria. In 1905, following Ludwig II’s overthrow by Otto von Bismarck, it was converted into a museum. Italian architecture can be found in the Residenz, a significant cultural landmark in Germany.
6.MASSIF ZUGSPITZE, BAVARIA
Encircled by deep valleys, the Zugspitze massif, part of the Wetterstein mountain range, sits on the border between Germany and Austria. Reaching the 2,962 meter eastern summit, which is topped by a golden cross, requires taking the Bayerische Zugspitzbahn, a cog train, or a cable car.
7.WESTERN POMERANIA: THE ISLAND OF RÜGEN, MECKLENBURG
Rügen is the biggest and most beautiful of the German Baltic islands. The mainland town of Stralsund, which is separated from the rest of Germany by the Strelasund, is connected to it via a causeway.
The island’s varied geography, which includes expansive sandy beaches, lagoons, picturesque peninsulas, hills covered in forest, and flat farms, adds to its allure.
8.Bayern’s Rothenburg ob der Tauber
The old Franconian imperial city of Rothenburg is one of the most seductive stops on Germany’s well-known Romantic Road tourism circuit. Situated on the rocky banks of the picturesque River Tauber, it is notable for its walls and towers that have not changed since the Thirty Years War of 1618.
9.POTSDAM’S SANSSOUCI PARK AND PALACE
Arguably the most famous example of Potsdam Rococo architecture is the magnificent Sanssouci Park, which was designed between 1744 and 1756. Frederick the Great’s influence can be seen in the park’s many greenhouses, more than 3,000 fruit trees, and stunning Baroque flower garden.
This large park is pleasant to stroll around, especially along the 2.5km road which runs straight as an arrow and is flanked on all sides by immaculate lawns, well-trimmed hedges, and pretty flowers.
10.The Schaffhauser Rhine Falls
The Rhine Falls are located close to Schaffhausen, a city known for its magnificent bridges, and the German border. These are the largest falls in all of Europe and one of the most beautiful natural tourist destinations in Germany.
Flowing at an average of 600 m3/s, or about two thirds of the US Niagara Falls, this natural wonder never ceases to amaze tourists. The Rhine Falls are in Switzerland, but visitors can still reach them with ease from the German border.
11.INSEL MAINAU: LAKE CONSTANCE’S FLOWER ISLAND
The 110-acre Insel Mainau, also known as the magnificent Flower Island on picturesque Lake Constance, is a popular tourist destination due to its beautiful parks and gardens with a diverse range of tropical and semitropical plants.
Access to the island is only by boat or a pedestrian bridge connecting it to the mainland, so be sure to factor in some extra travel time in addition to the two or more hours required to fully explore this stunning property. There are plenty of public parking lots with electric vehicle charging stations on the mainland.
