Missouri is a secret gem that is just waiting to be discovered, despite the fact that tourists visiting the US frequently ignore it. The “Show-Me State” is home to magnificent landscapes, scenery, and wildlife, but it also includes chic cities and unpretentious little villages with a wide range of thrilling outdoor activities to explore.
Missouri, the most populous state in the Plains, is a Midwest state with some Southern cultural influences visible. ‘The Gateway to the West’, so named for the turbulent river that flows through it, is remarkably bordered by eight states: Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Tennessee, Arkansas, Oklahoma, Kansas, and Nebraska.
The Missouri River virtually cuts the state in half and flows from west to east, connecting its two main metropolises, Kansas City and St. Louis, while the Mississippi River defines its eastern border. Wide-open plains are to the north, while its picturesque southern realms are home to the expansive Mark Twain National Forest.
The gorgeous Lake of the Ozarks, and the rolling Ozark Mountains. In these lovely locations, you can get close to nature by hiking, riding a bike, or riding a horse through wide valleys, swimming in or sailing on lakes, or simply relaxing on pretty beaches or at comfortable campgrounds.
No trip to Missouri is complete without visiting at least a few of its cities and towns, despite the fact that picturesque locations like the Ozark National Scenic Riverways beg to be explored.
The largest and liveliest of them, St. Louis, is the most well-liked because it is home to the magnificent Gateway Arch and many other historic sites, as well as lovely parks, wonderful restaurants, and intriguing neighborhoods.
The second most popular destination is Kansas City, which is known for its excellent BBQ and Blues music. Other popular destinations include Springfield, known as the “Birthplace of Route 66,” and Hannibal, the boyhood home of Mark Twain.
